#1 tip for picking the best location in Denver for your family photos

Don’t you just love photo sessions where the background is a remote mountain vista that’s 2 hours outside Denver and requires a 12 mile hike to get there? Yes? Me too! But generally, that’s not exactly the most feasible option when you’d like your portrait session to include little kids. Now, I’m not saying anything that parents of small children don’t already know.

What I would like to share is my #1 tip that many families don’t consider when picking a location for their photo session.

One of the biggest tips I have for you is to be really mindful of how far the family session location is from your house. Generally, I’ll encourage you to try and pick a location that’s no more than 20 minutes from your home. I know, there are some GORGEOUS locations outside of Denver. But the longer you’re traveling in the car, the more likely your kiddoes are to get worked up with being strapped in the car seat for so long, or they’ll just fall asleep.

Both scenarios leave kids with energy levels that are less than ideal for pictures. The closer you are to home, the more likely your kids will be to arrive at the location in a good mood. Additionally, with less travel time needed, it’s easier to work in a photo session that fits your child’s sleep / nap schedule.

Really want to pick a location farther from home? Consider making your photos part of a mini weekend vacation. Select a fun hotel that’s around other activities your kids would love, maybe it even has a pool. Then have a fun family-focused day, get some rest at the hotel or Airbnb, and then be refreshed and close to your photo location the next day. My goal is to keep the weekend fun going throughout your photo session too.

Worried about how your kids will handle your family photos? I provide tons of helpful tips here.
