3 Things to do when Hiring a Newborn Photographer

Hiring a newborn photographer can be overwhelming, and you want to make sure you’re getting a good return on your investment. There are lots of different options when hiring a newborn photographer, and I’m going to give you my top tips for picking the perfect newborn photographer.

1. Make sure you choose a photographer whose work you like. Research different photographers in your area and look through their website gallery and their social media pages to make sure you enjoy their style of photography. Look to see if they are a dark and moody photographer, a light and airy photographer, or true to color and vibrant photographer. I choose to shoot very vibrant colors that are true to life rather than altering color styles. I believe this is timeless that will never go out of style and you will always love your photographs even 10-20 years from now.
2. Make sure you appreciate the newborn style of photography that you see with your favorite photographer. Do they like to do extremely posed sessions for newborns like wrapping up babies in blankets and putting them in baskets with a lot of props? Or do they prefer naturally posed photography where the baby is in very minimal clothing with zero props around them? Choose which style you prefer and find a photographer that fits that style. You want to understand what the final product is that you will be getting!
3. Understand what is included in your session. Is it only photos of your newborn (either posed or unposed), or are lifestyle images included in your session with the whole family? How many images are included based on the cost of the session? Will you receive any prints or products included in the cost of the session, or are those charged on top of the price? Your photographer should be able to provide a price sheet for you to review before signing a contract with them, make sure you understand the cost upfront so there are no surprises on the back end!
